The Seattle Housing Authority has been providing subsidized rental housing and rental assistance to people with low incomes since completing Washington State’s first public housing community in 1941. Today, SHA serves 38,000 people, has an extensive portfolio including more than 8,500 apartments, townhomes and single-family homes throughout Seattle and administers nearly 12,000 Housing Choice Vouchers subsidizing people renting with other landlords. SHA provides more than housing by partnering with other organizations to give tenants access to services including youth programs and academic support, scholarships, job training and placement, behavioral and physical health, and a wide range of other support. SHA staff work with tenants throughout the different housing programs to help them learn about and take advantage of the many opportunities to improve and enrich their lives.

The Seattle Housing Authority employs 800+ people. SHA is committed to a diverse workforce and actively recruits people receiving public housing assistance and others with low incomes for jobs and development opportunities within the agency.

The Seattle Housing Authority Mission: To enhance the Seattle community by creating and sustaining decent, safe and affordable living environments that foster stability and self-sufficiency for people with low incomes.
